Same Sex Marriage
Regarding same-sex marriage, the Church is “unequivocally committed to defending the
bedrock foundation of marriage between a man and a woman,” but has taken an active
role in support of non-discrimination ordinances that protect members of the LGBT

I agree with the Church that America and other governments ought to protect housing
and employment rights for all of our brothers and sisters.
If you are not pro marriage equality you might say, “The Church’s stance on marriage
has not changed. Marriage for the LDS community is a sacred act, and we fully support
the Church.” You should talk about the importance of showing our gay brothers and
sisters our love and respect in the same sentence.
If you are pro marriage equality, you might say, “I love families. I love families so much I
want more of them!” You don’t want to say that the Church’s stance is wrong or could
change some day, but say something like, “I believe that our founding Fathers were
inspired when they created the separation of Church and State and I do not believe that
my religious beliefs about marriage should inﬂuence what is or isn’t public policy.
